Why it is called pid1
Every system starts with one process.
On a Unix machine it carries the number 1. Nothing else runs until it does.
It starts the others.
Every program you open descends from it. Our apps began the same way: one at a time, out of one small studio.
It takes in the ones left without a parent.
When a process loses its parent, process 1 adopts it. We want to do that for good software with nowhere to live.
Then it gives them a shelf.
